Farm Fridays in Second Grade
Second grade is learning about agriculture throughout the school year. We decided to dedicate Fridays as "Farm Friday" each week. We will be having agriculture related friends come to share experiences with the children.
On Friday, our Farm Friday guests were from Lampman View Farms. Luke, Pam, and Kimber visited our second graders to teach about their beef farm. They explained that their family farm has beef cattle, chickens, piglets, and cats! The family brought piglets, a calf, and a couple chickens for the children to see and touch. The children are learning first hand where their food comes from and how much work it takes! Thanks to Luke and Pam for taking time to visit us!
Last week (Friday, August 29th) we enjoyed Deere Creek Farms including Gary Hamilton, Gregory Hamilton, and Emalee Cavagna. They explained about their dairy farm, the crops they grow, and the machines they use. They also brought a tractor and baby calves for the kids to see! It was a GREAT time! We are looking forward to many more visits and presentations this year!

Second Grade Placemats a Hit at Ulysses Senior Center
Second grade was busy through the holidays with a community service project. Mrs. Hamilton’s Aunt oversees the senior center in Ulysses, and asked if our students would be interested in decorating placemats for her to use during the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners served at the center. Our students were very excited to share their artistic abilities! They used crayons, markers, and colored pencils to draw and write on the placemats. Each child made at least two placemats for Thanksgiving and for Christmas. The people at the center were very pleased with the outcome! They wrote thank you notes to our second graders and even baked us cookies! Many participants took their placemats home to decorate their refrigerators! It was a great experience for our children to participate in!
